Head over to their shop in Lower Street, Dartmouth to find out more, or visit get your very own Trafalgar Shirt.įind out about other brands we work with. In addition, JackSpeak have also announced that 10% of the profit from all of their blue JackSpeak Emmett shirts will also be donated to the RNRMC to further cement their commitment to the charity and its ongoing work. The new t-shirt, which will be designed and produced by Nick, right here in Dartmouth, should be available in time for Christmas, a perfect gift for anyone and you can feel good that a portion of your purchase will go to RNRMC. Nick quoted "it was great to have so many entries from our loyal followers and also to involve Britannia Royal Naval College and Captain Readwin, and a charity that is close to all of our hearts. I spent many of my formative years in and around the College, getting up to mischief within the grounds and the winning phrase ties in well with my history as well as being an established phrase within the Navy community for getting the drinks in!’. Captain Readwin said ‘I wanted to choose a phrase that would sit well on someone’s back as well as meaning something to me as naval slang. I am absolutely delighted to assist Nick and JackSpeak with choosing, and that he is so generously donating some of his profits to a well deserving charity providing support for my colleagues across the service." Those who serve can find themselves in a uniquely difficult and dangerous environment facing extended periods of time separated from loved ones, often with very little opportunity for communication. The RNRMC fills this gap in many ways such as projects to assist families of serving personnel, transition to new employment support and rehabilitation after injury to name just a few. This commitment is not without sacrifice. More importantly, JackSpeak are delighted to announce that 10% of the profit from the new t-shirts sold will be donated to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, who exist to support our country’s sailors, marines and families for life. Serving in the Royal Navy or Royal Marines represents an enduring commitment to protecting our island nation. Jack Speak had over 80 ‘slanguage’ suggestions for a new t-shirt logo, so the Captain had his work cut out! Many were very funny indeed, but perhaps not entirely appropriate to be displayed on everyone’s back! Captain Readwin announced that ‘Get the Wets in’ would be the winner, and Lee Squire, the proposer has won £100 worth of vouchers to spend in the Jack Speak shop in Dartmouth, Devon. Please feel free to contact me if I have missed anything important off either of the lists and I will add it.Founder of Jack Speak, Nick Shillabeer, was delighted to attend a very sunny Naval College today to find out which naval phrase Captain Roger Readwin, the Captain of Britannia Royal Naval College, had chosen to adorn the latest batch of JackSpeak t-shirts. They certainly added to the spice of life in the RN. I have also added a short summary of some of the more common nicknames given to Matelots across the Andrew. As the language we used, apart from the obligatory 'bad' language was an integral part of being a Matelot in the late years of the last century and I for one miss the humour and colour that it bought into everyday life. But not on this site! So if you are easily offended by simple words please click off this page now. However in this PC world a lot of the language we used in the Andrew is supposedly now unsayable and unprintable. It is accessible either through the lobby and up the stairs just opposite the Food Store Grocer or via. Hence, if you want to improve your speaking ability, you have to expand your vocabulary right away. First thing first, a useful vocabulary is the key to quality speaking skills. Others have quite literally stuck in the mind and my vocabulary since 1977! I make no apology for nicking some of these from the official RN site and I have left off some of the bootneck sayings as they still haven't accepted that they are actually in the RN!. Jack Speak is located on the 1st floor of the Hotel. Here are specific technical steps that one must follow to improve the speaking skills. Some of the words and sayings I haven't used in yonks. I thought I'd a add a small glossary of Naval language (Jack's Speak) to this site.
